"Youth Alliance has taught me many skills I can use to become a good leader."

Meet our members

Sheilah Jorgensen, Kihei Charter High School

What makes her feel good about our Maui Nui
community?

“The people are generally friendly toward the average
person.”

What is she concerned about in Maui Nui?

“I am concerned about drugs, smoking, the safety of teen–
agers, young adults, and homeless people. In school there
are people who drink and smoke and they’re not ashamed
of it. It’s almost cool to be doing drugs in front of every–
one.”

What is her idea to address this community concern?

“You have a choice to use tobacco. Even though you are
targeted as a teenager to use it, you can still make the
right choice and say ‘no.’”

What are her hopes for Maui’s future?

“For Maui to be what it is now. I think Maui is a very beau–
tiful place because of our beaches, plant life and our cul–
tural diversity.”
