"Youth Alliance has taught me many skills I can use to become a good leader."

Meet our members

Kiana Hayes, Lahainaluna High School

What makes her feel good about our Maui Nui
community?

“I want to be able to go to college and come back to the
Maui I know and love…a laid back community not a con–
crete jungle.”

What is she concerned about in Maui Nui?

“The tourist industry is a big part of our community and
we depend on it too much. The traffic issue and keeping
the culture alive is another [concern].”

What is her idea to address this community concern?

“My first suggestion is to build another road or make the
road bigger from Lahaina to the other side.”

What are her hopes for Maui’s future?

“A lot of locals are having to move outside of Maui and Hawaii
because it’s so expensive—they have to work three jobs to
live where they grew up. I would like to see this change.”

“Youth Alliance has
given me ways on
how to put my ideas
into action, not just
words.”
