"Youth Alliance has taught me many skills I can use to become a good leader."

Jackson Dabney

What makes you feel good about your community?

“I am proud that Maui has such a nice environment and clean air. There are very few places left that aren’t polluted and I would like to keep it that way. I am also proud to be able ot tell people that I am from Hawaii because of the spirit that people have here. I’ve grown up in Hawaii and I am proud to be able to be involved in my community.”

What are you concerned about in your community?

“I feel concerned about the beaches and their public access to people. I don’t want there to be any more beachfront condos or hotels that blockade access to the beach. The beach and the ocean is public and I don’t think that private land should be able to prevent that. I also want the public school system to improve. If I have kids and live in Maui, I don’t want to send them to a private school for a good education.”

What do you hope to gain from the Focus Maui Nui Youth Alliance experience?

“I hope to learn about how to contribute to my community. I think that the biggest roadblock to private citizns is that the way to get incloved is too confusing. I get into this organization I will better understand the government to become a more productive citizen later on.”
