What makes you feel good about your community?

“My community makes me feel good when I see the youth of Maui doing something that services everybody. Whether its driving on Haleakala Highway and seeing a group of teens picking up trash for Adopt A Highway or just opening a door for an elderly stranger. Seeing these things gives me hope for the future.”

What are you concerned about in your community?

“Teenage drug use is my main worry for Maui. It seems like there us just no way to avoid it. Drugs are in all of the high schools and ost of the middle schools. If there were more focus on building the self-esteem in Hawaiis students. Then they would never need to turn to drugs because they would be confident enough to pursue other activities. ”

What do you hope to gain from the Focus Maui Nui Youth Alliance experience?

“I hope to be able to assist my community by being involved in the decision making on Maui so I can represent the youth. This program will also give me leadership skills that I will need throughout life.”
