Alliance members discover the global significance of Pacific Disaster Center
The day began with a blaze of police sirens alarming Alliance members as they sat quietly in front of Pacific Disaster Center. No, Alliance members had not broken the law. That was the entrance of Tony Earles of the Maui Police Department, the surprise guest of the day, who enthralled members with the technology and art of criminal investigation. Members then put their creativity to use utilizing everyday household that are usually discarded to create fresh products. Rubber bands and hangers turned into a jewelry holder and tubes and balloons into a party centerpiece. Host of the day Pacific Disaster Center treated members to a tour and orientation on the use of technology to aid disaster management and response and learned of PDC’s value to the international community. Members toured the server room and went hands-on by exploring Global Information Systems to pinpoint various locals on the map.
